Spray dryers and spray drying plants can be used for a wide range of applications however they are most commonly used in the chemical, dairy, food and pharmaceutical industries.
A typical industrial spray drying unit consists of a large drying chamber, feed atomizer, hot air supply and dry product recovery/dust collection system. Spray drying involves the atomization of a liquid feedstock into a spray of droplets and contacting the droplets with hot air in a drying chamber. The sprays are produced by either rotary (wheel) or nozzle atomizers. Evaporation of moisture from the droplets and formation of dry particles proceed under controlled temperature and airflow conditions. Powder is discharged continuously from the drying chamber.
Manufacturers of industrial spray dryers include GEA, Niro, Drytec, Anhydro, Buchi and many more.
